They love the whole peanuts and can drain the feeder in a couple of days sometimes. I have mine hanging next to some other feeders and the other birds are not thwarted by the Jays at all. Mine is squirrel proofed by way of where it hangs, so I have a "tube top" cover over mine strictly for the weather.
