This review is from: Birds Choice Recycled Single Cake Upside Down Suet Feeder w/Hanging Cable This is a review for the product, and Bird's Choice products in general. As far as the seller goes, the transaction went smooth & fast and the product was neatly packed, so good marks to them as well.
I actively feed the birds in my tiny suburb backyard, and I have purchased MANY feeders, from many different companies. I fully admit that it's a bit of an obsession... trying them out and finding the ones that work best. So far I have identified about 17 species, mixing and matching the feeders based on what seed works best with what feeder, and what time of year it is. The squirrels are an issue too, but with a little bit of tinkering, I generally get around them. Invariably, my faves always wind up being the Bird's Choice feeders. No, I am not a spokesperson for Bird's Choice. They just work better, what can I say? If you go to their official website, you will see that they make a huge variety of feeders, not just types but materials. The recycled feeders...Read more 10 of 12 people found the following review helpful: By Prairie Fox "rondofox" (Lincoln, NE United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Birds Choice Recycled Single Cake Upside Down Suet Feeder w/Hanging Cable Okay, first the credit: this feeder IS well-made, durable, attractive, easy to fill or clean and reasonably priced. I can't fault it in any way save one: this feeder and other "upside down" or "clingers only" suet feeders are usually billed as starling/grackle proof or resistant. Supposedly starlings, grackles and other greedy nuisance birds that devour the suet in a single day (while chasing off the more desirable birds) have a hard time feeding upside down, unlike small woodpeckers, chickadees, wrens, nuthatches, etc. A lot of bird feeding experts and retailers toe this line, but in my experience here in the U.S. Midwest, it's just wishful thinking.
Starlings, in fact, were the first birds to use this feeder in my yard and most had absolutely no trouble hanging on it, upside down, and gorging. They relish suet and this feeder was like a starling aircraft carrier: landings were a little tricky sometimes, and only one bird could be "on deck" at a time, but they went on...Read more 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Birds Choice Recycled Single Cake Upside Down Suet Feeder w/Hanging Cable A fantastic product which I purchased solely in my attempt to foil the starlings (and other large birds) attempts to rob my suet feeders. I have to tell you, the day I started using this product the starlings met their match! Since they are no longer able to cling to the feeder, they will, with great frustration and for my entertainment, fly from the ground up to the feeder in their vain attempts to get food. After repeated failed attempts they eventually moved on. In addition to my total satisfaction as to use, the construction of the unit is solid and certainly designed for a lifetime of use. The use of recycled materials in the construction a big selling point for me. If you have a problem with bigger birds stealing the suet from from your feeders, I would suggest you give serious thought to the purchase of this product. Five stars, and if they allowed more I'd rate it even higher. |
