The result is a new feeder with dishwasher-safe, removable parts and a wide mouthed jar that takes the time and mess out of cleaning and filling the feeder. Features include unique and longer lasting, dishwasher-safe plastic (top shelf only); a high quality, crystal clear, wide mouthed glass bottle for easy cleaning and mess free filling; a removable, leakproof, two piece base that provides easy access to the inside of the feeder for cleaning; and easy to follow filling instructions. The yellow, flower shaped ports attract hummingbirds, and the feeder also has moats around the feeder holes to help repel insects. To fill the feeder, just add sugar and hot tap water directly to bottle, swirl, attach the base, and you're done!

They all have their issues: cleaning, too small, to flimsy, whatever. This one is almost perfect: it is sturdy and absolutely easy to clean. Just two little things I do mind: the holes for the beak are a bit too small, you can see that the birds have to concentrate very much in order to get the food. Orioles, who also like to feed at hummingbird feeders, don't have a chance here. This is a pity. And: the perch is a little bit too close to the feeding holes. I am getting about the same interest from the hummingbirds as I did before with my Perky Pet feeder. We're on the east coast, so we only get the ruby throated hummingbirds. They drink both when perched and when hovering. I might get a second one!
Also, the feeder directions said to pour the sugar and warm tap water directly into the feeder's glass top, and simply stir until desolved. This worked very well. Previously, I had always boiled the mixture before using, but this techique works great. So it has time to cool, I now mix it in a glass; let it cool, and then take it out to the feeder. Take apart the feeder, rinse with a hose, easy reassemble, and fill with the mixture from the glass. EZ! |
