This sturdy basic starter pole has a 1-inch outside diameter and is perfect to position your bird feeders and plants just where you want them in your yard. 68-inch tall, this three piece sectional pole is made of galvanized powder coated steel. One section is pointed to drive into the ground and the other two pole parts engage in seconds. The engaging parts are keyed with a dimple in one and a groove in the other to reduce any motion caused by wind. The threaded droll yankees pole adapter is included to mount any droll yankees tubular, caged, dcf, x-1b, lf-3, or h8-2 bird feeder at the top, as well as many other brands. A complete complement of specialized products is available to customize your pole specifically for your needs. Known as the ultimate pole system, you can choose from a the ultimate ground auger or 12-inch triple pole hooks, single arm hanger or double arm mounting hanger, bird house mount, squirrel slinky, universal seed tray or giant seed tray and a water dish. Extend your garden pole by 22-inch with the pole section. The rust-resistant steel construction and durable galvanized black powder coated steel will stand up to the toughest elements and keep this pole working for you, season after season. Note - when assembling your pole, applying vaseline to the engaging parts will prevent them from sticking together over time. Dimensions: 1-1/2 by 1-1/2 by 68 (assembled). I was pleased with the Droll Yankees garden pole (DY-GP) when I first received it. It's lightweight, quick and easy to assemble, modular, and more affordable than some of the other bird feeder poles I'd looked at online. I also trust the Droll Yankees brand and wanted to support a company that 1) manufactures some of its products within the U.S. and 2) contributes a portion of its sales towards wild bird/conservation efforts.

Now that I've had the pole a few weeks, however, I wanted to make some observations on its limitations. The lightness of the pole makes installation easily, but its lack of heft makes it a little unstable once installed. Of bigger issue than the material (galvanized powder coated steel) is the way the pole is put together. The staked section goes into the ground. This pole was very easy to set up. The pointed end was easy to bash into the ground, and the other pieces fit snugly on top. The only thing I wish is that it came with a flat piece that I could put on top to screw onto a feeding tray. Still, this one seems very sturdy and fits into the socket on our tray. It's just that since the tray isn't screwed on, it can spin around, and sometimes the birds are a bit surprised.

I bought this pole, and the birdhouse mount that goes with it. I like to buy American-made products. My opinion is that Droll Yankee needs some serious quality assurance work in their manufacturing. The pole is shaky and the joints need two layers of duct tape wrap to make them fit snugly enough to hold up to mild breezes. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
