Duncraft constructed the pavilion feeder with a nylon resin base for durability in all weathers. To keep grabby squirrels out of the birdseed, the platform uses dual metal grids and mesh screen to enable beak access only. The feeder holds up to 1 pound of sunflower seeds in its tray. The overhead injection-molded plastic roof protects birdfeed from excessive rain exposure. Small holes in the feeder base allow ample drainage to further discourage mold and mildew from developing. To clean the feeder, users can take the platform apart without difficulty. Users should regularly clean the feeder with equal parts water and white vinegar to protect the birds from bacteria and disease and restock with fresh seed. For the best results, hang the bird feeder by its stainless-steel hanging wire near trees and bushes rather than in the open, where birds feel vulnerable to predators. To stand alone, the feeder fits on any 1-inch diameter post. The feeder does not come with birdseed. Duncraft offers limited warranty for this item. The feeder tray measures 14-3/4 by 11-3/4 by 1-3/4 inches while the roof spans 15-1/2 by 13-3/4 inches. The 10-1/2-inch tall feeder weighs 4 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

It hangs great and the squirrels seem to leave it alone. My only problem are the posts which keep the top up, broke fairly soon after hanging the feeder and we had to super glue it back together. 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful: By Lori (Connecticut) - See all my reviews This review is from: Duncraft 169 Squirrel Proof Pavillion Platform Feeder (Lawn & Patio) i bought this to put on my existing pole. I like the whole concept idea of this bird feeder but they need to do some major improvements on installing it on a pole. First of all, it is for a 1" pole adapter but the hole on the bottom is not a screw type of installment. Just a plain smooth round 1" hole that you slip on top of a pole. Therefore, it is not a tight fit and the bird feeder bottom tray is wobbling side to side with any weight applied to it. I returned it as I felt this was not suitable for pole installation but if you want to hang it with the loop, then you may want to give it a try. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful: By Susan F. "Susan F." (Clifton, New Jersey) - See all my reviews This review is from: Duncraft 169 Squirrel Proof Pavillion Platform Feeder (Lawn & Patio) This would be a great feeder if the grid could be removed for cleaning. I set this up in the backyard and in two weeks, there was mold growing in the corners. It is important to keep feeders free of dirt and contaminants and I could not get this feeder clean no matter what I tried. The squirrels loved it. They chewed through the plastic mesh and used it as a shelter from the rain. |
