Duncraft's Squirrel Proof Accent Selective feeder is a squirrel resistant sanctuary for songbirds. The Havenguard fencing creates a barrier that holds squirrels too far back to reach the seed and has openings too small for large birds to enter. The fencing provides perching for several birds to feed at once, providing constant activity, bird song, and vibrant color. The plastic coated metal fencing deters unwanted guests such as pigeons, grackles, and squirrels. Smaller birds are allowed to feed in peace from 4 metal feeding stations. The feeder features a Squirrel Lock tab that prevents squirrels from lifting the metal lid off the seed tube. The metal roof protects birds and seed from rain and snow and the wire base keeps seed from collecting and attracting squirrels. The unit features an EasyClean base to facilitate fast cleaning and the clear seed tube keeps seed levels visible at all times. The metal cage, cap, ports, perches, and base prevent damage from squirrels and beaks; the recycled polycarbonate seed tube is durable.

This is the best squirrel proof type of bird feeder there is - as far as I have been able to determine in several decades of trying to find such an article. I have owned many other types, including the Hertitage green metal monster weighted-perch feeders. I don't know how stupid your squirrels are, but here they just hang by one foot from the hanger or the perch joint of the Heritage feeders and stick their heads into the slot, holding the feeder open with their fat necks while they gorge themselves. Poles don't stop them. Greased poles don't stop them. Silicone spray and WD-40 don't stop them. They just keep working at it until they wear the stuff out.

This style of feeder, where the feeder itself is inside a substantial baffle, is the closest thing to squirrel proof I have found. I own several in different sizes. I bought this feeder to keep flocks of starlings from emptying my uncaged feeders in one afternoon. It solved the problem instantly, the cage won't let them at the food. I have it mounted on a pole with its own squirrel baffle, so its squirrel-proofness is not yet tested. It is very sturdy, so I doubt it would give in easily to them.

One minor issue. I have two feeders of this same approximate size, and my local birds can empty both in just 2 days. I am currently looking for a taller or three-tube version. (Refilling is a pain.)

This feeder does the job of keeping grackles/squirrels away, but is impossible to clean! The bottom does not come off the feeder (although you can detach the tube from the wire basket), so getting caked on seed out is impossible...seed gets stuck between layers at the bottom and just rots. It's a poor design if you like to clean feeders. Also seed gets wet easily and rots.
