I bought this to replace a sock feeder I had bought locally. That feeder was pre-filled and cost about $5. The birds liked it, but those pre-filled disposable sock feeders allow a lot of seed to slip through the larger holes & fall to the ground.
This feeder has a finer mesh so very little is wasted. The birds seem to like it and I have seen as many as 6 clinging to it at once. Switching to this feeder and buying large bags of bulk seed, it will pay for itself very quickly. Refilling is also easier with the flip-top cap. An added bonus: the dark mesh also makes the goldfinches colors stand out.
