The worst side effect from spilling birdseed all over my patio every time I filled the feeder wasn't all the sweeping and scraping to recapture all the spilled seed but rather all the weeds that would spring up in the plant areas around my patio a few weeks later. This funnel-scoop has probably paid for itself already considering how much it has reduced waste, not to mention time and frustration. I discovered this online by accident when buying a new bird feeder a few weeks ago, and I am very glad I decided to buy it too!
Operation: close the opening to the funnel by sliding a lever on the side, fill the scoop, insert the funnel into the seed repository of the bird feeder, and turn the lever in the other direction to release the seed.

The concept behind this scoop is great, and if it didn't keep falling apart, I'd have given it 5 stars. But the problem is that the two pieces of plastic in the bottom of the scoop are not attached to anything, and keep falling out. So what remains is a funnel with a couple of extra holes in the bottom, which is "great" for spraying seeds all over the place. I'm going to try gluing it together, in hopes that it will work as advertised. Note: I ordered 2 of these, and they both have the problem.

Edit, six months later: some super-glue seems to have done the trick, so I'll increase the rating a bit.

I bought two of these scoops because of I was tired of making such a mess when filling my feeders. These are great! You fill the scoop up and place it in the top of your feeder and slide the panel over and the feed goes right in - no mess!
