Summary: Nearly a decade of use and still performing well. 2008-10-18
Comment: I've had mine for nearly a decade and though the paint is peeling, it still is stellar in performance. I use it as a hanging feeder, using long hanging wires so the squirrels cannot access it at all from the small branches. It is as near squirrel proof a feeder I've ever used. The squirrels don't hang around to harass the birds either, which is great. If the birds drop seeds below, the squirrels seem content to consume from the ground or move on to other feed stations that are less squirrel-proof. As others have said, I like that it is easy to clean and the over-hang of the roof seems to protect the seed from mild rain storms here in Florida.

Summary: Only One Problem -- A Big One 2007-08-01
Comment: We were disappointed that this design failed to keep squirrels out of the birdseed due to one major problem: the hood does not fit snugly on the seed hopper. The gap that is created between the hood and the hopper is large enough to allow the squirrels in our yard (smart, they are) to flatten their bodies and squeeze their way into the hopper. Once inside, they eat to their hearts' content, then shovel all of the seed out the open end of the feeder. After they have emptied the hopper, they squeeze their way out through the gap and join their squirrel buddies on the ground for the feast they have created.
We threw away the box in which the feeder came, otherwise, we'd return it!

Summary: Make your money back in bird seed in the first season.. 2007-03-18
Comment: I love the birds that come to my outdoor feeding station. I have multiple feeders out, depending on the time of year, but this unit is mounted to cedar post year round. I never had much of a squirrel problem, however, wite wing doves will raid any feeder with a platform. They are locked out of this one, but the Northern Cardinals can still enjoy it. I don't know what is best about this thing. The 11 lbs of seed it holds, the steel construction or the fact that it only feeds from a single side, so I can point it at the house and not miss a bird. (Most of these weight sensitive feeders feed from two hoppers.)
I highly recomend this unit as the central piece of your bird feeding station. I have purchased over a dozen feeders, and none of them bring this entire group of features to the table.

Comment: The thing locks squirrels out but I've seen a mouse stocking up on seeds from it! You also have to make sure there is NOTHING close for the squirrel to stand on and reach from because he/she/it has to hit the tension rod to close off the food...
I do wish the port was wider because cardinals and birds of that size have a tough time perching on the small space. It's easy to keep clean, fill, etc.

Comment: It's truly squirrel-proof. In fact this is my second one to buy. I bought it for almost $50 through Amazon but after I'd already ordered I spotted the same feeder at Wal-Mart for $29.95!
