4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Plastic, but No Drainage, March 22, 2012

I normally avoid plastic as much as possible for outdoor products. They usually just don't stand up to the sun and weather. However, this feeder is heavy duty plastic and appears to be colorfast (after about 3 years of continuous use). I use it to present mealworms, sunflower seeds, raisins, or whatever else comes to mind. The metal hook is plenty sturdy. The one weakness is that the bowl does not have any drainage holes, so it will fill with water and spoil the food after every rainstorm. To ameliorate that, I drilled small drainage holes in the bottom of the bowl. The holes are big enough to allow water to pass through but too small to allow seed (or even jelly) to pass through.

My Cardinal, named Pedro, loves his feeder!! He took time to get used to it, but he loves it now.
