After trying several different feeders, this is my favorite Hummingbird feeder.
I bought two and I have one in a planter and I have the other one hanging from a
window suction cup hanger. I like it best because it is small and it forces me to rinse it out often with very warm water and then add new sugar water as highly recommended on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website to keep down mold and diseases for the little hummers. (recipe is on their website also) Also, the price was right and I can have several feeders instead of buying just one expensive one! And one last point, I like the fact that it does not have the yellow bee guard, since I read that yellow tends to attract yellow jackets. In fact, I do have one of those other types with the yellow guard and they also tend to leak. This kind is much better. the birds love this one... tried to put out Hummzinger (bigger container, 8 oz) but got no visitors so have to bring back the old planter box size feeder. this time around, after doing much research, realize the benefits that this little feeder offers:
1. easily determine from a distance of how much sugar water is left, cant do this with hummzinger ( avoid red dye as it is most likely not safe for the birds, plus does not make any difference in attracting the birds)
2. this one does not have yellow color on it to attract yellow jackets
3. small container forces us to clean and refill every 3 or 4 days - prevent fungus growth.
4. very easy to clean, no hidden nooks, no leak (so cheap that even replacement is not an issue)
5. we can hang several on a small trees so more hummingbirds can visit (they are territorial)
really wanted the Hummzinger to work but the birds just wont visit it.
