This wire mesh feeder can hold a lot of sunflower and other seeds and is unbaffled inside. It is solidly constructed, all metal, and the top and bottom plates are easily removed yet secure in use. The wire mesh is large enough for a variety of bird foods, if that is your desire. Birds went directly to the feeder after being hung.
Raccoons are not likely to damage this feeder. I'm hoping the black bears won't empty it.
The bottom tray has drain holes but if the feeder is full of seeds some moisture retention will probably result. Solution--don't fill it all the way or depend on heavy use by the birds to empty a full feeder in a matter of days. IMO an internal baffle would be a good option so that the seeds would appear nearly all the way to the top without actually having to fill the feeder. Of course a can could be placed inside to accomplish this and might be nice to do seasonally depending on the bird business.

This bird feeder is very sturdily built and simple in design which are the primary reasons I bought it. At first glance I was thinking it's overpriced for alls I got. I wasn't thinking a raccoon could get to it on an extended deck hanger, but one did! Alls he managed to do was to pull one link of the metal slightly out of shape, but he did not get into it and I saw no other damage. I still think it is a bit overpriced, but again, proved to be sturdily built. I am still waiting to see how the intended guests will like it!
