Product Description
Keep your backyard birds fed while guarding their seed from squirrels with the Opus Fortress Bird Shelter Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder. The large plastic cover protects your smaller songbirds while they are feeding. The weight sensitive design of this feeder allows small songbirds to dine on mixed seed, but the feeding stations close when a larger animal attempts to perch on the base. The 2.25 pound capacity keeps the feeder full longer, eliminating repetitive trips to refill it and the cap twists on securely, preventing squirrels from lifting it and stealing seed. The large roof also prevents moisture from rotting the seed. The cap and base are both metal to prevent squirrels from chewing on them. The rich brown color blends with your outdoor decor for a beautiful accent season after season. Use the included, 7 inch long cable to hang this feeder from a tree or hook. Feed the birds and not the squirrels with the Fortress Bird Shelter Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder.

I've had this feeder for several years. It's the most widely used feeder I have other than the thistle feeder. This feeder keeps the red winged black birds and other "seed hogs" from eating all of the seed, but allows the smallest birds such as finches to eat. It only takes a few days for the finches to figure out how to get under the cover. Once they do, they'll use this feeder more than others. It also keeps snow and rain out of the seed (a big plus in Minnesota).

This bird feeder looked liked the solution to our problem with the squirrels, unfortunatley it is also the solution to the birds we have had the feeder up for a month, and the birds cannot figure out how to enter it, they stand on it, sit on the pole it is hanging on, but cannot get into it. Very disappointed, but it does keep the squirels off.

So far, so good. As long you hang it far enough from anything a squirrel can climb, you're good. Mine is about a foot from the pole, and that seems to be enough. The hanging plastic over the feed is great for keeping out huge birds and squirrels, but I love it because it keeps the seed dry (which has been a big problem for me) - no more sprouts :)! Just for that, I'd give it 5 stars, but so far it's done a good job keeping out the squirrels too.
