This is my first hummingbird feeder I've owned, so I can't compare it to any others. The instructions on the bottom of the feeder were very vague. However, after 5 minutes of my time, and through trial and error, I figured out the problem that some of the previous reviewers were having.
1. The bottom half of the red base either was not tightened enough during the manufacturing process, or came loose during shipment. You need to tighten the bottom half of the base by screwing it clockwise - as there is a seam there and it will leak if not tight. 2. MOST IMPORTANT: Keep the clear section pushed down until AFTER you fill it. (it needs to form a vacuum and it won't if you pull on it during this step). 3. Fill the clear section with nectar, and put the lid on quickly to form the VACUUM so it won't leak out the holes. 4. Hang it with the included small S-hook, and THEN carefully pull on the bottom of the feeder so the nectar can...Read more 9 of 11 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Perky-Pet 120TF Top Fill Push-Pull 16-ounce Magnolia Plastic Hummingbird Feeder (Lawn & Patio) We were looking for a wider, lower-profile hummer feeder that wouldn't sway as wildly, as our area is quite windy. This looked the part. But BEWARE!! I don't think the mfr. even tested this feeder! Within a single day, all the sugar water leaked out the bottom, creating exactly the sticky mess we'd hoped to avoid. Even when sitting on a level surface it did this. The problem seems to be a completely unnecessary two-piece construction for the red base, and a completely pointless foam plug at the bottom...BOTH of which leak horribly. Was able to glue together the two halves of the base, but there is no way to fix that foam plug.

Customer Video Review Length:: 3:35 MinsThe biggest flaw of the Perky Pet hummingbird feeder is that it leaks if it's not filled to the top to begin with or if the wind tips it, something that happens quite easily since it is a lightweight feeder. Made of thin plastic, it also shatters easily when dropped, as shown in this video. (I had my feeder for only a week before I lost it.) The included S hook is small and inadequate, so buy your own if you want to keep your feeder. And definitely consider an ant guard such as Wildlife Accessories S-10008 Trap-It-Ant Trap, Red Carded or learn how to construct your own. I do like the push/pull feature since it allows you to fill the feeder inside and then carry it outside without spilling. Just remember to pull down the base just before hanging, or the birds won't get any food. Instructions are located on...Read more |
