This birdie bell is very versatile! I mainly use it as a holder for bird seed that is shaped like a bell; (I use Pine Tree Farm mixed seed which the birds seem to like better than other brands I have tried. I use the Birdie Bell instead of the netting that comes with the seed bell). The Songbird Essentials Birdie Bell keeps the seed bell neat and intact. Although I have a total of 5 different types of feeders, the birds seem to like this one best! Some birds cling onto the bottom and other birds prefer to cling around the sides and on the top. I like this birdie bell so much that I bought another one! In the spring, I use one of the birdie bells to hold nesting material. I also tried putting oranges in it to attract Baltimore Orioles. I like that the top of the birdie bell already has a hook on it so you don't need to purchase a separate hook. Highly recommended for a variety of birding ideas. Try it, you won't be disapointed!
