Varicraft Avian Mixed Seed Feeder (Model AV-1MNP)

For years I've been trying to find a raccoon-proof high capacity bird feeder. There are many squirrel-proof ones, but this is the *only* raccoon proof one in existence as far as I can tell. Raccoons have destroyed many plastic ones that I've tried, so I learned that any feeder must be all metal. Second, no matter how big of a baffle I put on my wire a raccoon will still get past it, so the metal feeder must also have a metal cage. This feeder is indestructable and raccoons can't get into it, plus, it holds several weeks worth of seed, so it's great!

This feeder did keep the larger birds like Blue Jays from monopolizing the feeder so that they smaller birds could get to it, however, it does not keep out Red Squirrels. I have a wonderful picture of a Red Squirrel sitting inside the mesh, on the platform, blissfully munching away. We had to get a Squirrel Baffle ($24)to put under the feeder to keep them from getting to the feeder. If you have just Grey Squirrels I don't think this would be a problem. It holds a lot of seeds so instead of refilling a feeder every day, we refill this one about every 5 days.
