Pretty but not practical,

I fell in love with this feeder as soon as I saw it. I bought it for the Western Scrub Jays that come to my yard for whole peanuts. Unfortunately, they have a hard time landing on it, as the bottom rim is rather narrow. The design causes the feeder to swing wildly back and forth anytime the jays attempt to land on it, dumping peanuts on the ground. The jays do manage to grab a peanut on every other attempt. I switched to a hanging platform feeder ($11.99 at Walmart) and have had much better luck--the jays hang around longer to select peanuts before flying off.

This feeder does nothing better than feed squirrels. While the squirrels can empty it in an hour, jays have a hard time landing on it. The Droll Yankee's domed feeder provides a significant challenge to squirrels.
